It's been a brutal winter overall and probably best not to dwell on it! It's done, and we're still here. Bike season is beckoning. Please note that we are going back to Wednesday night for the rides. It seems to work out better for most of us.
2018 was a pretty tough year to be a cyclist in Regina. Our riding options were restricted due to the construction around the city but it looks a lot better for 2019. Expect to see less of Condie and Hwy 734.
We've been enjoying the gravel roads around Regina over the last year or so and we're going to put together a couple of introductory rides for those of you that are interested. We'll give you some tips on how to ride and where to go. A mountain bike is good enough, by the way. If there's enough interest we'll mix in a gravel option on the Wednesday night.
We're also hosting a Saturday morning group ride for Spokesmen/Spoke n'Hot. It will be a no drop fun ride that will end in coffee somewhere!
Registration is now open and we will be having our Registration/Tech night on Wed April 24th at Dutch Cycle. It's a pretty relaxed affair and a chance to renew old acquaintances and tell a few lies about what you got up to over winter.
See you soon,
We took the Spoke n'Hot riders up Hwy 6 on Monday. It was ok but boring. Condie really is a better choice overall.
Meet there at 6:10, riding by 6:30.
Weather is a bit iffy, I'll monitor as usual and post a Go NoGo at 4pm.
Posted to Spokesmen instead of Spoke n' Hot! My excuse is that it's been a long day!
So, it's a bit of a shit show really. The ride from Condie into Lumsden will be in to a headwind. The return will be a fast one. The ultimate kick to the head will be if the winds die off just as we are getting ready to turn around! Don't laugh, it's happened to me more than once.
The wind will also keep the temperatures down and the evening will cool off rapidly after 7pm.
But we live in Saskatchewan, wind is a fact of life here so let's get out there and see what happens. Meet out at Condie and be ready to ride by 6:20.
This will be our first ride together and conditions are less than ideal.
If you are a senior rider, please keep the pace and the groupings loose and easy until you get a good feel for what's going on. We're all excited to be out, but let's be smart.
If you're a new rider, relax and listen to the other riders.
There is no question that tonight will be a tough ride. If you decide to skip it, that's completely understandable especially if you do not feel ready yet. Please be smart about this evening. here to edit.
It's still not exactly cycling weather out there, is it? However Spring will eventually come and we will be dusting off the bikes and looking for our shoes! I know I need a new helmet..
This Thursday, April 12th will be our opening night for the season. Our best friend and sponsor, Freddy Vandelinden, has invited us over to Dutch Cycle, 1336 Lorne, at 6:30 to revisit old friendships and meet some new riders.
So let's get together, share a beer, make new friends and get ready for 2018. If you have a friend who is a bit bike curious, bring him along!
A perfect reason to start thinking about the 2018 season.
Theresa and I, with about 16 other riders, will be heading out to Penticton in mid April to start our training for the year. With both of us signed up for Ironman Mont Tremblant We know we've got to get some good miles in the legs!
The big change for Spokesmen in 2018 will be the change from Wednesday to Thursday for the Group ride. I'd had quite a few comments from various people that they would come out with us if it was not Wednesday. I sent out an email to the 2017 riders and most were in favor of the move. Not all, but enough that I believe it's a good move. Time will tell.
Registration is now open for the season, just click the link on the Membership page of the website. Registration night at Dutch will be Thursday April 26th. We will be on the road the following week. If you have any questions, or want to give my name and number to a friend who has questions, feel free. I can always be reached at (306) 540-8110.
